Who I am
This site belongs to Brodie Mei, an independent SEO and content consultant, web builder and photographer in Ontario, Canada. This policy explains what personal information the site collects, why, and what you can ask me to do with it. I handle personal information under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What I collect
I only collect what you choose to send me, plus basic visit data if analytics is turned on.
- Contact form: your name, email address, company or website, what you're interested in, a budget range and timeline if you pick them, and your message.
- Newsletter signup: your email address and which updates you asked for.
- Visit data: if analytics is on, the pages you view, how you arrived, your device and browser, and your approximate location. I don't connect this to your name.
This site doesn't take payments, and I never need passwords or financial details from you through it.
How I use it
- To reply to your message and, if we work together, to scope and run the project.
- To send the newsletter you signed up for. Every issue has an unsubscribe link.
- To see which pages are useful and improve the ones that aren't.
I don't sell, rent or trade personal information, and I don't use it for anything you wouldn't expect from the form you filled in.
Who else handles it
A few services process information for me:
- Webflow hosts this site and stores contact form submissions.
- My newsletter provider stores subscriber email addresses and sends each issue.
- Google Analytics (GA4), if it's turned on, counts visits and page views. I don't use it for advertising.
- Google Fonts serves the site's typefaces, so your browser connects to Google when a page loads.
- A scheduling tool, if you book a call through a booking link, stores your name, email and the time you chose.
Some of these companies store data outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to local law. I may also disclose information if the law requires it.
Cookies
Webflow may set a small number of cookies the site needs to work. If Google Analytics is on, it sets its own cookies (named _ga) to tell a new visit from a returning one. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site still works without them.
How long I keep it
- Messages: if your message doesn't lead to work, I delete it within two years. If it does, I keep project emails and records for as long as Canadian tax law requires, currently six years.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics: no longer than 14 months, after which Google deletes it.
Your rights
Under PIPEDA you can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, correct it or have it deleted, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. Send your request through the contact page and I'll respond within 30 days. If the law requires me to keep something, I'll tell you what and why.
If you're not satisfied with my answer, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca or 1-800-282-1376.
Keeping it safe
I use services that encrypt data in transit, I'm the only person with access to what you send, and I keep only what I need. No system is perfectly secure, so please don't send anything sensitive through the form.
Children
This site isn't aimed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Links to LinkedIn, client websites and other sites lead to services with their own privacy policies. I'm not responsible for how they handle your information.
Changes
If I change how I handle personal information, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
